Audi News – June 2018
New Audi A1 Sportback revealed
The second generation Audi A1 Sportback has been revealed. Eight years after the A1 Sportback made its debut, the bold new design boasts increased levels of performance and technology perfectly suited to the urban environment.
Below the edge of the bonnet are three flat slits – an homage to the Sport quattro, Audi’s rally icon from 1984. They’re complemented by the wide, low-placed singleframe grille and the implied side air inlets, giving a distinctive front.
The A1 Sportback is available in a choice of 10 colours, with the roof, exterior mirrors, side front spoiler lips and side sills available to be finished in a contrasting colour. A choice of efficient TFSI engines are available with outputs ranging from 70kW to 147kW, mated to manual or the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmissions.
More spacious and comfortable than before, the interior is designed for the digital future with an eye-cathcing 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster used to effectively display all the necessary information to the driver, whilst driver assistance systems such as lane departure warning, speed limiter, Audi pre sense front, and adaptive speed assist make life easier.
We look forward to showing you more when it makes its Australian debut in the first half of 2019, with final pricing and specs to be confirmed closer to launch.

It’s Audi Season
New Audi Q8 revealed
The new face of the Q family is here: the Audi Q8.
And a new face it is indeed, with its imposing Singleframe in octagonal design. The versatile, sporty and elegant Q8 exudes sporty dynamics and upscale prestige like no other SUV in the Audi range. At 4.99m long, 2m wide and 1.7m tall, the SUV coupe is wider, shorter and lower than the Q7.
The Q8 features all-wheel drive, an eight-speed automatic transmission, the the new mild hybrid technology (MHEV): a 48-volt primary electrical system that enables long coasting phases with the engine deactivated.
The Q8’s interior technology has taken another step forward. The upper 10.1-inch MMI display controls the infotainment and navigation systems, whilst the lower 8.6inch display controls heating and aircon, convenience functions and text input. Not only that, the natural language voice control turns the Q8 into an intelligent dialogue partner; for example, tell the Q8 “I’m hungry”, and the Q8 will suggest restaurants in the area. We’re living in the future.
Pricing and specs will be confirmed closer to launch date, which is due in Australia for early 2019.
New satellite dealership
As mentioned in ‘From the Managing Director’, Penfold have received planning approval for a satellite Audi Dealership in Waverley, with both sales and service facilities.
The current plan is to have the workshop operational by the end of September this year, with the showroom up and running in the first half of 2019.
We hope that this addition to our Burwood dealership provides greater convenience for our customers in the Waverley area.
Audi & Hyundai: driving the development of fuel cell technology
Audi AG and Hyundai Motor Group plan to cross-license patents and grant access to non-competitive components in a bid to accelerate development on fuel cell technology.
Through their collaboration, both partners aim to bring the fuel cell to volume production maturity more quickly and more efficiently. Long ranges and short refuelling times make hydrogen an attractive future source of energy for electric mobility. This is particularly true for larger automobiles, where the weight advantages of the fuel cell vehicle inherent to its design are particularly pronounced.
